National Pizza Day

National Pizza Day

National Pizza Day is a day to celebrate pizza, which is a baked flatbread topped with tomato sauce and cheese and baked in an oven. Of course, many toppings and sauces can be added, ranging from meats to vegetables or seafood. Pizza was invented in Naples, Italy in the 10th century. In 1905, America’s first pizzeria was opened in New York, named Lombardi’s. Since then, dozens of chain stores have emerged. Pizza is one of the most popular foods in America. In fact, 3 billion pizzas are sold in America each year. That amounts to 46 slices or 23 pounds of pizza per person per year. Pepperoni tops the list as the favorite, equally 251.7 million pounds of pepperoni per year piled on top of our pizzas. How to celebrate: Celebrate by eating at least 2 slices of pizza. You can either create your own pizza masterpiece at home or take the family or friends out to your favorite pizza parlor. Many pizzerias offer discounts on National Pizza Day, so conduct an internet search.
