Filipino Independence Day celebrates the Philippines liberation from foreign powers. On July 4, 1946, the Philippines gained independence from the USA. However, the current date celebrated is June 12, which is the day of the declaration of independence by General Emilio Aguinaldo in 1896. This date was established by former Philippines president, Diosdado Macapagal, to remember Filipino heroes of the revolution.
